New Year’s is upon us and with it comes a time of resolution. Many of our resolutions deal with personal desires to improve upon ourselves. How about a resolution that benefits everyone you will come into contact with New Year’s Eve and the rest of 2016?

Make a resolution not to drink and drive. Designate a driver or make arrangements for a cab ride home before you begin partying. A new year’s resolution should not be to have enough money left over for bail.

If you are with friends, look out after each other and make sure that no one leaves driving intoxicated. Make good choices so that you can enjoy the excitement of the evening as we say goodbye to 2015 and look forward to new challenges in 2016.

On a personal note to those of you who bought a deputy a cup of coffee or a meal, thank you, you’re kindness did not go unnoticed. To those who took the time to shake our hand and let us know that you appreciate what we do, thanks for making our day a better one.

On behalf of Sheriff Furlong, the employees, staff and auxiliary units of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wish you all a safe and Happy New Year!

Sgt. Scott McDaniel
