Fallon drops Truckee

Thanks to a trio of scorers mixed with a South Tahoe loss, the Fallon boys basketball team kept its leg up in the drive toward the postseason.

The Greenwave, minus junior guard Connor Richardson, relied on the shooting of Jeff Evett, Clay Davison and Dylan Ridenour to run past Truckee, 57-42, on Friday in a Northern Division I-A matchup.

South Tahoe, meanwhile, suffered a 21-point loss to Elko on Friday, but rebounded to upset Spring Creek, 44-24, on Saturday. Fallon (7-5 league, 10-11 overall) remains one game ahead of the Vikings (6-6, 10-11) and within two games of Spring Creek (9-3, 12-8) for the No. 3 seed.

The Spartans, though, hold the tiebreaker over the Wave after sweeping the season series, meaning Fallon must finish at least one game better than Spring Creek to leapfrog the Spartans for the third spot.

Elko (12-0, 19-2) and Lowry (10-2, 15-7) both clinched playoff berths.

Although that scenario has long odds, Fallon and South Tahoe tangle in the final game of the regular season on Feb. 14, which may decide the No. 4 seed.

Before that, though, the Wave hosts Dayton at 7:30 p.m. Friday and visits Lowry at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Spring Creek, meanwhile, closes the season with Truckee, Sparks, Elko and Lowry and must lose three of the four games, while Fallon must win out for the Wave to capture third place.

At Truckee on Friday, Evett continued his impressive season with a game-high 20 points, while Davison added 14 and Ridenour had 10. The threesome outscored the Wolverines in the game 44-42.

Richardson, meanwhile, missed the game due to a wrist injury and is not expected to return until Saturday’s tilt at Lowry.

Nevertheless, Wave overcame the loss of its star guard to drop the Wolverines.

Truckee, though, came out strong as Fallon held a 13-12 first quarter lead. The Wave turned up the pressure in the second quarter outscoring the Wolverines 19-12.
