The Churchill County Commissioners approved Social Services Director Shannon Ernst as the new public guardian and with doing so the county will be hiring for a full-time human services specialist.
Ernst said as of Jan. 31, Anna Krave, the previous public guardian, stepped down from the position due to personal reasons.
“I would ask since I will be taking over the position that has extra duties which includes oversight of all care, financial and asset management for the wards based on NRS (Nevada Revised Statute) 253, an additional support staff will be necessary,” Ernst said.
She said, however, in order for her to take the position of public guardian, she will need more staff support both to the mandated Public Guardianship program and existing functions of the Social Services Department including accounts payable and receivable, research and administering grants.
The position of the human services specialist — for which Ernst is asking — for the Social Services Department will have an emphasis on accounting along with the public guardianship functions, Ernst said. She said the position will also entail assisting with grant research and oversight and with the management of guardianships and their estates.
Other items the commissioners approved include the following:
Approved Bill 2015-A, Ordinance 115, an ordinance related to the duties of the Churchill County Public Administrator.
Approved conservation easement and purchase agreement proposal for Flint Lee.
Approved budget transfer no. 01-FY 15.
