A Carson City job fair featuring up to 70 tables manned by employers or employment-related resource people is set for Friday afternoon in the Carson City Community Center’s gymnasium.
The event, which begins for veterans who are job seekers at 1:30 p.m. and for other prospective employees at 2 p.m., has attracted commitments from 55 employers and 15 employment aid organizations to help with education, training and guidance of participants. The job fair is put on by city government’s Health and Human Services personnel and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce in the 851 E. William St. center’s gym. It should last until about 4:30 p.m.
The number of firms, government units and others seeking workers prompted enthusiasm.
“It’s showing that employers are actively looking,” said Nicki Aaker, Health and Human Services director.
“Some of the employers that will be attending next Friday’s fair have multiple positions to fill,” said Lynn Ellis, HHS work force program case manager. She encouraged job seekers to dress well and bring several copies of their background information to share with their potential employers. This will be the sixth such job fair in recent years. The previous five resulted in at least 50 hirings each, or a minimum of 250 employed, according to surveys.
