STATELINE — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested 11 people during Wednesday night’s New Year’s eve celebration in casino core area of Stateline.
Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 11:50 p.m. for public safety reasons as the celebrants flowed into the roadway. The Nevada side of Highway 50 was cleared of celebrants at approximately 12:15 a.m. and was reopened to vehicle traffic at approximately 12:22 a.m. after the crowd peacefully moved off the roadway, according to authorities.
Eight people were arrested in the downtown casino core area. Charges included battery, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, minor consuming alcohol and possession of a dangerous drug.
Another three people were arrested and charged with traffic-related offenses and driving under the influence (DUI).
Law enforcement and support agencies included Nevada Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff Search and Rescue, Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, FBI, Douglas County Communications Center, Nevada Department of Transportation and Caltrans. There were no reported injuries to any public safety personnel.
Las Vegas police reported 22 arrests during a night that saw hundreds of thousands of celebrants flood the Strip and downtown, The Associated Press reported.
Reno police made only four arrests during downtown festivities.
Las Vegas police say there were at least nine driving under the influence arrests around the valley but provided no breakdown for other arrests.
In Reno, arrests were made for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and disorderly conduct.
