On Saturday, the Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department held its annual New Year’s Day 5K Fun Run/Walk at City Hall.

Aaron Elissa won the overall title with a time of 10:18.43 as 88 runners and walkers braved cold temperatures to participate in the traditional event. Rebekah Woolsey won the women’s run with a mark of 10:27.07 followed by Leslie Zimmerman (10:27.58), Victoria Downar (10:27.59), April Oakden (10:28.37) and Jordyn Rogers (10:28.43).

As for the men’s top finishers, Tanner Boone (10:18.51) placed second followed by Tristen Thomson (10:20.20), Brady Heusser (10:20.40) and Jordan Chapman (10:21.09).

The Parks and Recreation Department’s next event is Saturday with its youth ski program. The program will transport children 8-17 to Diamond Peak Ski Resort for a day on the slopes.
