Prep roundup: Wolverines handle Dust Devil boys basketball

TRUCKEE — The Dayton boys basketball team dropped a Division I-A game at Truckee, 56-43, on Tuesday.

After a back-and-forth first quarter that ended with the Wolverines leading 9-7, the hosts outscored the Dust Devils 16-10 in the second quarter to carry a 25-17 lead into the half.

Truckee maintained a double-digit lead throughout much of the second half while fending off a couple of Dayton runs, including a 7-0 run late in the third quarter that cut the lead to 38-30.

Senior guard Cam Hollabaugh helped keep the Wolverines in front with a big second half, when he scored 13 of his team-high 15 points, including nine in the fourth quarter.

Blake Blocker paced the Dust Devils with a game-high 16 points, and Dylan Munroe, Davis Winebarger and Jackson Walker each scored seven points.

Truckee improved to 1-5 in league (3-11 overall) while Dayton fell to 1-6 (3-9 overall).

“We missed a lot of easy shots early,” Dayton coach Jason Santos said. “We didn’t shoot well; didn’t finish. We came out flat defensively.”

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Damonte edges Carson boys

RENO — Connor Quilling and Gurpreet Badhan each scored 10 points, but it wasn’t enough as Damonte Ranch topped the Carson JV boys team, 39-34, Tuesday night.

Sevon Mandoki added nine points for Carson, who fell to 8-7 on the year.

FRESHMEN BOYS BASKETBALL

Carson 40, Damonte 36

Dawson Lamb scored 18 points to lead Carson to a 40-36 win Tuesday night in Carson.

Trevor Muckensturm chipped in six points as Carson improved to 7-7.

Truckee dominates Dayton

Jacob Massett returned from an ankle injury to lead the Dust Devils with 10 points as Dayton lost to Truckee, 46-19 Tuesday night.

Colin Winebarger scored seven points for Dayton.

VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dayton girls lose early lead

TRUCKEE — The Dayton girls basketball team let Tuesday’s league game at Truckee slip away in the second and third quarters en route to a 52-31 loss.

Dayton led 7-4 after one quarter but was outscored 10-0 in the second quarter and 22-13 in the third.

Junior forward Angela Sikora led the Dust Devils with 11 points, and Christina Ricci scored seven points on a 7-for-10 night at the foul line.

Smith Valley wins big

The Sierra Lutheran girls team dropped a 51-18 decision to Smith Valley Tuesday night.

Sierra Luthern falls to 2-3 in the league and 4-10 overall. Stats were not provided.

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Carson girls keep rolling

Mallory Otto scored 11 and Camiell Simpson and Molly Otto added 10 each to lead Carson to a 50-10 win over Damonte Ranch Tuesday night.

Carson plays at Wooster Friday night.

Truckee pounds Dayton

TRUCKEE — The Dayton JV girls lost 56-16 at Truckee Tuesday night.

Elora Neep scored seven points for the Dust Devils.


FRESHMEN GIRLS BASKETBALL

Carson pummels Damonte Ranch

Lauren Lemburg scored 11 points to lead the Carson freshmen girls basketball team to a 37-20 win over Damonte on Tuesday in Carson.

Katelyn Morse added nine points and Abbey Paulson added five points.

Carson improves to 10-5 on the year.
