Assistant Senate Majority Leader Ben Kieckhefer, R-Reno, who represents Carson City, issued the following statement regarding Gov. Brian Sandoval’s State of the State address:

“Tonight, Governor Sandoval took a stand on the side of school children and Nevada’s future. We all know that the time for half-measures and repackaged versions of the status quo is over, and our Governor has outlined a pathway to academic excellence for every student. All Nevadans should be excited about what they heard tonight.

Academic excellence doesn’t come free, though, and we should all applaud Governor Sandoval for ignoring personal political risk and proposing a bold new revenue plan that would help fund the many reforms needed in our education system. This is a thoughtful and serious proposal that the Legislature must now consider, and we will do so once the details become available.

As we enter the 2015 Legislative Session, I look forward to working with Governor Sandoval and his team as we process his budget recommendation, and I’m confident that come June, we will be ready to confidently take the next step to a prosperous future for every Nevadan.”
