Jean Marshall passed away January 10, 2015 at the age of 69 surrounded by her family in Carson City, NV. Jean was born in Victoria, B.C. Canada on Nov. 6, 1945 to parents Eve and George Garber. She attended school in Victoria until she was 11 and then the family relocated to Sumas, Washington where she attended school until her High School graduation in 1963. Jean then attended Western Washington University for a year and then married. Jean worked for The Bank of Sumas and in 1969 and adopted her beloved daughter Debi Jo. In 1972 Jean and Debi moved to Olympia, Wa. where she was employed by Seattle First National Bank. Jean met the love of her life, Phil Marshall, in 1972 and they married in May of 1973 and moved to McCall, Idaho. Jean gave birth to Jason Marshall in McCall in 1974. She later worked for the Bill Kirk Insurance Agency in McCall as a bookkeeper. The years Jean, Phil and family spent in McCall were wonderful years. Jean was active in church and was instrumental in starting the first kindergarten in McCall. She loved the area, the boating, fishing, and snowmobiling in the winter. In 1975, Jean, Phil and the family moved to Moscow Idaho where Jean worked for Seattle First National Bank in Pullman Wa. Though it was difficult times, Jean and Phil made life long friends while there. In 1976 they returned to McCall and their wonderful home on Payette Lake. In 1977 the family moved to Reno, Nevada and in October of 1977 Jean gave birth to Jordan Marshall. In 1978 Jean and Phil built their home in Carson City and started their own engineering firm. Jean worked as the bookkeeper and filled in at the office as needed. Jean was active in the church and PTA while raising the 3 kids. Their home was a place where kids gathered. There was always food and laughter. Jean really connected with the kids friends and they felt welcome at any time. Jean and Phil sold the firm in 1999 and retired. During this 20 year period Jean and Phil bought property in Birch Bay, Wa. and utilized the home as a vacation home until 1999 when it became a 6 month a year residence in retirement. Jean had spent a good part of her youth at the beach in Birch Bay and returning was a wonderful experience for her. She enjoyed the crabbing, clamming and fishing. Jean loved her home there and loved the boating trips in the San Juan Islands and Canada. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her sons Jason and Jordan. She is survived by her husband, Phil; daughter Debi Olson; grand children, Daylin and Blayke Olson; “adopted son” Gordan Dzadzic and sisters, Jan Griffin and Joan Digerness: and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Waltons Funeral Home in Carson City , Friday January 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the memorial service for friends and family at the Marshall home in Carson City. . A celebration of life will be held at a future date this summer in Birch Bay.
