A two-car accident about 7 miles north of Fallon on U.S. Highway 95 injured at least one person on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, reports the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Fallon District Office.

The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office responded first and then provided traffic control after the Nevada Highway Patrol arrived. CCSO Capt. Mike Matheson said on Tuesday it appeared one vehicle rammed into the rear of another. Paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital were also at the scene taking care of at least one occupant in the first car.

In its official report, the NHP said a Nissan driven Archie Huff of Reno, apparently stopped in the northbound lane because of dogs. The NHP said a witness collaborated the story. While Huff was stopped, a four-door Toyota sedan driven by Loren Pontius rammed into the back of Huff’s car, sending it into a ditch. Alice Pontius, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was taken to Banner Churchill.

The NHP said Pontius received a failure to exercise due care ticket.
