Two Johnny Cash tribute concert performances are set for Sept. 5 at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City to raise funds benefitting service programs of the Carson City Kiwanis’ noon luncheon club.
Jimmie Ray & Cyndi Cantrell with the Black Train band are featured, along with the precise pickin’ of Dale Poune, during the Virginia City tribute shows planned for 4 and 7 p.m. that first Saturday in September, according to Mario Ramirez. Ramirez is the incoming president of the noon Kiwanis Club of Carson City that meets at Casino Fandango on Thursdays.
“This year we wanted to do something different,” said Ramirez. “I decided to do a concert.”
Each tribute performance reprising the work of country music’s late Johnny Cash, also known as the man in black, will cost $25 per ticket and the opera house can accommodate 300 for each show, according to Ramirez. He said there also will be a cash bar serving beer, wine, soda pop and water, but food service will not be planned.
Ramirez said it’s the club’s top event of the year to help provide money to do service projects and other things for young and old alike. He said the Kiwanis club raises money for such things as programs involving the Children’s Museum, books for kids, cops for kids, as well as scholarships and to help feed seniors through Meals on Wheels.
“This is why it’s one of the main events we do in the year,” he said.
