Jerry Barlow, a storyteller and Celtic fingerstyle guitarist, will perform traditional pieces and some of his own compositions in a free concert sponsored by the Carson City Library at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Barlow’s repertoire includes arrangements of lively jigs, spirited reels, and haunting airs. The guitarist’s album, “Fields and Fences,” was one of five nominees for Instrumental Album of the Year by the Independent Music Awards. The Indie Acoustic Project, an international award that celebrates the best independent acoustic music, selected the title song from Barlow’s CD, “Bring Down the Storm,” as “one of the best songs of 2006.”

Music from all of Barlow’s recordings can be heard regularly on National Public Radio stations. Barlow has been featured in Fingerstyle Guitar magazine, and he was also profiled in the monthly newspaper Celtic Connection. He has performed in the Gates Auditorium for the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts, and is a favorite of High Plains Public Radio’s Living Room Concert Series in Amarillo, Texas.

The concert will be in the library’s Digitorium, 900 N. Roop St. The library will be serving up ice cream sundaes before the concert from 2 to 4 p.m.
