Fernley Adopt-a-Soldier program seeks donations

Fernley Republican Women’s Caring for America/Adopt-a-Soldier program collects non-perishable foods for the Fernley Food Bank along with donations of funds and care items for soldiers. Its newest adopted soldier is Nevada Air Guard’s Staff Sergeant Jessica Reed, the granddaughter of Yerington’s Diana Wallin.

Reed, who has served in Afghanistan since June of last year, graduated from Damonte Ranch High School in Reno in 2007. She graduated from UNR in 2013 when she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs. She is pursuing a Master of Science in International Studies and is scheduled to graduate in August.

Items sought for soldiers include: single serving food and personal care items and cards and letters from home. Books are also collected for deliver to the Ronald McDonald House and the Renown Hospital Children’s ward in September.
