Former Nevada basketball player guilty for heroin possession

A former University of Nevada men’s basketball player pleaded guilty and was sentenced to drug court Tuesday in the Tenth Judicial District Court for heroin possession.

Ronnie Edwards Stevens Jr., who played power forward for the Wolf Pack and graduated in May, entered the plea after his arrest on June 18 by the North Central Narcotics Task Force.

According to the criminal complaint, Stevens was apprehended on charges of possessing heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD or acid), psilocybin (mushrooms) and dextroamphetamine, which is used to treat ADHD.

According to court records, he was arrested at South Taylor and West Center streets and booked on five counts. Prosecutors, though, dismissed numerous other counts after a plea deal was reached.

Stevens was sentenced to three years probation and must complete the Western Nevada Regional Drug Court. If he completes the program, which is between one to three years, the felony case will be dismissed.

However, if Stevens fails to complete the program or violates his probation, he may serve a one- to four-year prison sentence.

He averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 22 games for the Wolf Pack last season. Stevens’ senior season was cut short in February due to a leg injury, according to media reports.

He had surgery in December 2013 for a stress fracture, but could not overcome the injury to stay healthy to compete in the final stretch of the season for Nevada.

In 41 games for the Pack, he had five starts and averaged 3.1 points and 2.8 rebounds.

In other court news —

Chea Mikel Douglass pleaded not guilty Tuesday in District Court to one count of burglary.

He is accused of breaking into the residence of Amanda Nadeau and Joseph Digregorio with the intent to commit battery or assault.

A two-day trial is scheduled for March 9-10, 2016. If convicted, Douglass faces one to 10 years in prison.

A bench warrant was issued for Tony LeBeau, who did not appear for his arraignment on Tuesday.

He is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance.

LeBeau tested positive for methamphetamine on Friday and Tuesday by Court Services. The warrant is a no-bail hold.

Michael Jon Rios pleaded guilty to one count to violating his lifetime supervision as a sex offender.

Rio admitted he consumed alcohol on July 5 and will be sentenced Oct. 13. He faces one to six years in prison.
