Christy pled guilty to the charge making a trial unnecessary.

Katrina Paddy, Christy’s co-defendant, was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Sentencing was held March 9. Christy was sentenced to 96-240 months in the Nevada Department of Corrections. Paddy was sentenced to 48-120 months in the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Also in Lyon County court news, Russell Edward Frietze, 24, of Fernley was sentenced on March 9 to 76-192 months in Nevada State Prison for child abuse causing substantial bodily harm and 24-96 months in Nevada State Prison for child abuse. Frietze pleaded guilty to the charges for abusing a young girl, causing a skull fracture and leg fracture.

Sinnott prosecuted the case for the Lyon County District Attorney.

“We’re very satisfied with the outcome,” said Sinnott. “The young victim in this case was badly injured from the abuse inflicted by Mr. Frietze. Thanks to a diligent investigation by Lyon County sheriff’s deputies and DCFS, Mr. Frietze received a significant prison sentence for what he did. Young children need the protection of the justice system in these cases.”

Also, a jury found Florencio Brito, 33, of Silver Springs, guilty of resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, on May 21, after the conclusion of a three-day jury trial at the Third Judicial District Court in Yerington.

Orrin J.H. Johnson, Senior Deputy District Attorney, and Sinnott prosecuted the case for the Lyon County District Attorney.

Brito was convicted of these crimes for aiming and shooting a firearm at a Lyon County Deputy Sheriff during the course of an investigation. The State of Nevada Department of Public Safety, Investigations Division, handled the investigation in the case.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 13 at the District Court in Yerington. Brito faces a maximum possible sentence of 11 years — five years for the resisting charge and six years for the assault with a deadly weapon charge — in the Nevada Department of Corrections.
