Carson City Strings in the Summer student music program starts Monday

The Carson City Symphony’s free Strings in the Summer, a six-week program for string players of all ages, starts Monday at Carson Mall under the direction of Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch.

Three classes, which meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., are offered each week. Each class features at least one new tune.

The Monday class, Introduction to Fiddle and Folk Music, is designed primarily for younger students, and for violinists, violists and cellists of any age who have limited experience.

The Wednesday class, Fiddlin’ Fun — Melodies, Harmonies, and Improvisations, is for advanced beginner to intermediate violinists and violists and features more complex tunes and rhythms.

The Thursday class, String Ensemble, is for advanced beginner to intermediate violin, viola, cello, and bass players and features fun tunes for orchestra.

Upon completion of the program, participants will perform a free public concert.

Tuition is free; donations welcome. All are invited, from youth to senior citizens. Priority is given to current Strings in the Schools students; Carson Middle, Eagle Valley Middle, and Carson High School orchestra students; and Symphony Association members.
