Summer is in full swing and so too are a number of local sporting options for Churchill County residents.

The upcoming slate of activities, meanwhile, are the next round of choices for those, especially Fallon’s youths, to mark on their calendars.

First up is the second annual De Golyer Buckin’ Horse and Bull Bash, which runs Friday with a concert and Saturday’s rodeo. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Friday for an all-you-can-eat barbecue with the concert starting at 7 p.m.

The rodeo, meanwhile, kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.

Continuing the rodeo theme, the county’s annual Boots ‘N Britches program runs throughout the summer and returns to the arena on July 2. The program is for people of all ages and includes events such as breakaway roping, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and more.

For those young aspiring athletes, the county has a trio of options from volleyball to swimming to football.

A youth volleyball camp run by Jennifer Buckmaster commences July 21-23 from 2-4 p.m. each day at the Gym at Venturacci Park. The cost is $50 and players will learn the fundamentals of volleyball from serving, defense and offensive stragies.

At the indoor pool, meanwhile, swim lessons start July 13 with morning and afternoon sessions. On Aug. 3, the second round of lessons begin in the morning and run until Aug. 16.

The pool will be closed for maintenance from Aug. 17 through Sept. 13.

On the football field, the Fallon Youth Football League’s annual football camp runs July 20-24 at Churchill County High School. Sessions are from 5-7:30 p.m. each day and the cost is $50.

For those looking to hit the links, the Fallon Youth Club’s annual golf tournament fundraiser is on July 25 at the Fallon Golf Course.

The event is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start with check-in at 7 a.m., while the tournament begins at 8 a.m. The cost is $65 per player for non-members and $35 per player for members of the golf course, which includes greens fees, cart and barbecue.

Finally, the county’s eighth annual Dust Devil Sprint Triathlon returns Aug. 15. The event consists of a one-third-mile swim, 14.5 cycling course and a 2.9-mile run.

The triathlon starts at 7:30 a.m. (no race day registration) with women’s, men’s and team divisions. The cost is $65 per individual and $120 per team.
