Another three-game sweep sets up the first showdown of the season for the Fallon softball team.

The Lady Wave cruised past Spring Creek last weekend at Spring Creek and takes on rival Fernley at 3 p.m. today at the Edward Arciniega Complex.

Fallon drilled Spring Creek 24-0 on Friday, then won 25-14 in a football-like score and capped the weekend with a 14-2 victory.

In Friday’s game, Fallon never scored less than three runs in an inning including eight in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Wave pounded out 26 hits, while Spring Creek had just three.

Sophomore pitcher Kayla Buckmaster was on point as she struck out six and didn’t record a walk in five innings. She also added three hits and drove in four runs to aid her cause.

Paige Thorn and Kalyn Huckaby each blasted home runs and both each had five hits. Thorn recorded seven RBIs, while Huckaby had six.

Megan McCormick, meanwhile, went 4-for-6 with four doubles, four runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

In Saturday’s first game, Fallon raced out to a 9-0 lead after the top of the second, but Spring Creek answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Fallon tallied eight runs in the next two innings, while the Spartans scored four runs in the third and sixth innings. The Lady Wave outhit Spring Creek 22-12, but committed six errors, while the Spartans had four.

Megan McCormick led the way going 4-for-5 including two doubles with four runs and two RBIs, while Thorn added three hits and four RBIs highlighted a home run.

Huckaby and Ashley Alvarez also each tallied three hits, while Alvarez drove in four runs. Ali Tedford scored five runs, while Huckaby and Hannah Frank each scored four times.

In the finale, Fallon raced out to a 9-2 lead after four innings and sealed the win with five runs in the sixth.

Tedford went 3-for-5 with five RBIs, while Thorn, Huckaby, Izzy Thomas and Buckmaster each had two hits.

Buckmaster picked up the win in the circle as she struck out four and allowed just two hits and a pair of runs in six innings.

After today’s game against Fernley, the Lady Wave returns to the diamond April 3-4 against Elko at the Edward Arciniega Complex.
