Open burning in Lyon County is closing on May 17 and will remain closed until the fall.
Central Lyon County Fire District Chief John Gillenwater is encouraging residents to clear their property for defensible and survivable space.
The fire district offers assistance in preparing defensible space around homes to homeowners. For information about the program, call the district office at 775-246-6209.
