100 Years Ago

Well Behaved Crowd. The manager of the Barnes circus, as he sat leisurely smoking in his in his private car at the depot waiting for the clearing up odds and ends before the train pulled out, remarked to Agent A. F. Stanton that it was the best behaved crowd during the incident of the blowing down of their tent that he ever saw, “and I have been in show business thirty years and seen fires, wrecks and accidents aplenty” He continued, “If the same incident had happened with a city-bred crowd of similar size, people by the score would have been trampled to death.”

A Mercantile Change. A deal of much importance which has been under consideration for some weeks was completed last Saturday when the Grey Reid Company purchased the entire dry goods and clothing departments of the I. H. Kent Company.

75 Years Ago

New Owners for Lincoln Auto Court. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Barry, formerly of California, have purchased the Lincoln Auto Court east of town from Ralph Runberg and have now taken possession. The six cabins are now undergoing a complete remodeling and will be modernized. Hot and cold showers are to be installed, also kitchenettes.

Newlands Camp is Ordered to Boca. The entire personnel of CCC camp at Fallon has received orders to leave on or before the first of June to occupy the summer camp at Boca reservoir A report reaching Fallon that the camp at Boca is to be permanently vacated has not been verified.

Fallon Theatre. Exactly as shown in Atlanta premier. Margaret Mitchell’s ‘Gone With the Wind’ Buy reserved seats now. This production will not be shown anywhere except at advanced prices, at least until 1941.

“Nevada” is Named Horse of the Month. Nevada, a colorful buckskin and white blanketed Appaloosa gelding, owned by Eddie and Susan DeMars has been chosen as the Sahwave Appaloosa Club’s April Horse of the month.

Construction to Begin on Safeway Store. It was announced today by officials of Safeway Stores Inc. that construction is expected to begin within a week on the new store to be located at the corner of Taylor and Williams Avenue in Fallon.
