Veterans Day is Wednesday:


Boy Scout Troop 1776 will be performing a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Veterans Day. The event will take place at 2 p.m. at the Churchill County Regional Park near the southeast baseball field. After the ceremony, Kiwanis Club of Fallon will serve ice cream.

The public is invited to join Troop 1776 and the Kiwanis Club for this solemn ceremony to retire the flags. If people have a faded or tattered flag in need of retirement, they may bring it along, and the Boy scouts will make sure that it gets properly disposed of at a future ceremony.

Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs and a can of food or other non-perishable food item to help support our local food banks. For more information, contact Scoutmaster Jim Shurtliff at 775-423-6911.

Highland Village is conducting a program for veterans at 2 p.m.

Fallon Theatres is showing “Bridge over the River Kwai” at 4 p.m. Veterans are free.

The Fallon Elks Lodge 2239 will be honoring all veterans with a free dinner. The dinner will start at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. The cost for guests will be $8 nd for children 12 and under $5.00. For more information call 775-423-2239.

Squeezy’s, 2055 Trento Lane, is offering complimentary breakfast or lunch for veterans from 6 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Virginia City and Reno will have Veterans Day parades, each beginning at 11 a.m.

Today is a federal holiday: All federal, state, county and city offices are closed. K-12 schools and Western Nevada College are closed. Check with your financial institutions.
