A hero’s house should feel like home, at least that’s what one business thinks, and that’s why it’s contributing to a worthy cause.
The Building for America’s Bravest program aims to raise money to build custom designed, specially adapted smart homes for service members who have been seriously injured.
Roger’s Carpet One Floor & Home on Topsy Lane, and the rest of the Carpet One Floor & Home locations, have committed to providing flooring materials and installation for 46 of the homes.
“They absolutely give everything they have, including their limbs fighting for America,” said Tom Aust, operations manager at Roger’s Carpet One.
Carpet One is working together with its manufacturing partner, Mohawk, to ensure these homes are equipped for whatever injuries the service member may have.
They are inviting their customers to make contributions to the program, or share the information with others.
To celebrate the giving nature of the company, members of the Fire Department of New York City presented a specially designed shadowbox containing September 11 steel from Ground Zero to Roger Pierce on Thursday.
“The vets that have been wounded have given so much,” said John Martorana, Battalion Commander for the FDNY. “It’s our way to give back.”
The Building for America’s Bravest program is a part of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, named in honor of FDNY 9/11 fallen firefighter Stephen Siller.
“If people don’t step up and help, no one will,” Aust said.
