Eldon “Perk” Perkins, 94, a Carson City resident and business man for 56 years, passed away peacefully at home with family on Nov. 3. Perk was born in Nevada, MO and joined the Army Air Corps and the war effort in July 1941 soon after leaving school. It was in the Army that he met and married Edythmae “Edee” Hentschel in Kansas City, MO in January 1943. Upon Perk’s Honorable Discharge at the end of WWII he and Edee moved to southern California. Looking for a quiet peaceful way of life, the family started traveling to Lake Tahoe in 1953 and moved to NV permanently in 1956. He owned many businesses throughout the years including Perkins Realty and Perkins Knit Shop. Perk was very active in the Masonic Orders and held many high offices in the York Rite Bodies and Order of Knights Templar. He was Past Master of Carson Lodge #1 F&AM, Past Patron of Argenta Chapter #7 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Grand Secretary of the Nevada Grand Lodge and gave many years of service to the boys and girls in the orders of DeMolay and Rainbow. Perk and Edee enjoyed camping and traveling the west, and Perk served as President of the local chapter of the Wally Byam Airstream club. During the last 15 years of Edee’s life they were full time RV’ers. Among Perk’s survivors are daughter and son-in-law Penny and Jerry Kelley, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Mary Perkins all of Carson City, as well as 6 grandchildren Kevin Forman, Paul (Blythe) Forman, Elizabeth (Lysle) Turnbeaugh, Jerod Perkins, Wyatt Perkins, Afton Perkins and 5 great-grandchildren Kade, Quinn, Liam, Harper Rose and Logan. Perk was preceded in death by his wife Edee and daughter Donna Mae. A memorial service and scattering of ashes of Perk and Edee will be held by the family at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made to the National Parks Federation.
