Rescue Me opens store on South Taylor Street

Rescue Me first opened its doors in the fall 2014 with previous owner and now consignor DeLea Johnson.

Johnson had been refurbishing furniture for several years as a hobby from home and was approached by the owners of The Slanted Porch on South Taylor Street to open shop in the little house next to the restaurant. She and her business partner, Angie Oceguera, invited Jody Jarvis along with several other friends to join them as consignors to help keep the shop full.

In February 2015 Johnson and Oceguera sold the business to Jarvis because they were no longer able to be at the shop every weekend since their other business, A&D Promotions, gained a larger territory. So the friends swapped places as owner/consignor with Johnson still being involved as a good friend as well as consignor and guide and still creating the beautiful work that first made Rescue Me such a great success in its first six months.

This is Jarvis’ first attempt at being a business owner. Prior to working with Johnson and Oceguera, she had spent the last 22 years as a stay-at-home homeschool mom of two boys with the love and support of her husband Kenyon Jarvis, who is now supporting her in this business venture wholeheartedly (and with his muscles, as well, when moving large pieces of furniture is required).

Rescue Me is not a thrift store nor is it an antique shop. It is something unique. The main concept behind Rescue Me is to take household furnishing items that have seen better days and refurbish them in some way to give them new life. There you can find unique, one of a kind refurbished and repurposed household furniture and decor items for both inside and outside the home.

They have a team of creative consignors, including Johnson, Pat Sloan, Jessica Akens, Layne Wilhelm, Sally Marshall, Karen Fisher, Jennilei Biser, Cathy Harris, Patty Brice and Stuart Straub and offer great prices on everything from furniture, chalkboards, quilts, glassware, drink coasters, barn wood items and anything in between.

Rescue Me carries a wide variety of styles including antique, Shabby Chic, and Mid-century Modern, among others. They have ready to take home items as well as do the occasional job order for customers as time allows.

Currently operating hours are Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
