Financial Horizons organizes Reno Hwy community cleanup

Giving back to the community has been Financial Horizons Credit Union’s mantra for many years.

On Saturday morning from 9-10:30 a.m., Financial Horizons is organizing a community cleanup along the Reno Highway to remove trash and weeds. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Financial Horizons Credit Union building at 2711 Reno Highway. An open house with lunch will be provided after the cleanup for all volunteers.

Branch manager Angela Guthrie said she came up with the cleanup project after running on the Reno Highway.

“I noticed all the weeds and garbage along the highway,” she said.

With Thursday being International Credit Union Day, Guthrie said it seemed appropriate for Financial Horizons to do something special for the community.

During the year, Guthrie said Financial Horizons is an active volunteer in making a difference. For example, she said a Pennies Count program raises money and so far has returned more than $30,000 to Churchill County since the credit union opened in Fallon.

“Our volunteers are also involved in community events,” Guthrie said.

Financial Horizon employees helped at the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival and Country Fair, taught youngsters from the Churchill County Parks and Recreation SumFun summer and after-school program to understand money and talked to high-school students in the business classes about financial planning for the present and future.
