Feb. 10, 1923 - Aug. 31, 2015
Robert “Skip” Brandt died in his home at Carson Plaza on August 31, 2015 in Carson City, NV. He was 92. Mr. Brandt was born on February 10, 1923 in Quincy, Illinois to his parents Charles and Daisy Brandt. During World War II, he served four years in the Air Force and flew fifty European missions with the 376 Bombardment Group known as the “Liberandos”. After returning to the states, he moved to Michigan, went to work at Great Lake Steel and in 1946 married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dotty” Jane Sloan. In Wyandotte, Michigan, they raised four children; Jeanne, don, Russ, and Susan. After retirement from the steel mill, they moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1997. Skip was active in St. Theresa’s Church and was an usher for many years. He was a proud member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus. An avid poker player, he was often seen playing with his “poker buddies” at the Carson Plaza. Skip was also a drummer, a woodworker, and had a deep love for dogs. Skip was preceded in death by his wife Dotty in 2009. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jeanne Ross-Theriault and Mark Theriault of Carson City; his son and daughter-in-law Don and Jenn Brandt of Mount Desert, Maine; his son and daughter-in-law Russ and Rose Brandt of Southgate, Michigan; and his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Eric Peterson of Carson City. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Scott, Shannon, Christina, Danielle, Jason and Alyssa and seven great-grandchildren, Gavin, Mila, Ronin, Lucy, Aaron, Athena, and Ava. The family extends many thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Carson Plaza and Gentiva Hospice for taking such good care of him. At Skip’s request, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations to the VFW would be appreciated.
