Lithographs advertising the Nevada State Fair at Fallon have been sent to 32 towns in the state. It was announced yesterday that the fair management is endeavoring to arrange aeroplane flights every afternoon at the fairgrounds as a special attraction. The committee decided that the colors for the fair shall be alfalfa green and purple, corresponding to the beautiful alfalfa blossom. Churchill County Eagle, Saturday, August 28, 1915
While motoring up a slope in Kit Carson canyon recently we overtook an old man pushing a bicycle up a sandy hill. His name was John Werner. Bicycle trips benefit his battle for life against lung trouble. He has three times made the trip from San Diego to his boyhood home in Indiana, has once made a trip through Oregon, Yellow Stone and Yosemite. When in the high altitudes he sometimes feels ill effects, but at such times he says he makes a strong tea from the leaves of the sagebrush, waving his hand toward the sagebrush growing along the fence, said “That kind, there.” This tea he drinks either hot or cold and says it always relieves him. 33rd Annual State Fair and Rodeo opening Saturday will be the largest in history…Miss Virginia George, the “Golden West Girl” will make a bit of yippee beside one of the spectacular fireworks sets which form part of the big new pyrotechnics display provided by Shell Oil Company, Inc.

New construction is moving ahead rapidly in Fallon. The largest structure is the new Safeway Store at the corner of West Williams and Taylor. The store and parking lot will occupy the entire block, and the store itself has a floor space of 29,904 square feet. Walker-Boudwin of Reno are the contractors, and Tom Chambers is the superintendent for this project. Concrete sidewalks and driveways were poured last week, and the asphalt parking area for 98 cars will be completed later. The entire front of the store will be glass, although Mr. Chambers shrugged philosophically when he informed us that the glass company from whom the glass is being purchased is currently on strike. Such complications are common in the construction business.

At least a dozen pilots flying souped up World War II fighters are expected to be on the starting line in Clearwater, Florida, for the second annual, $15,000 Harold’s Club Cross Country Air Race to Reno. Managing Director Selby Caulkins expressed confidence that this year’s race would be much faster than the1964 event, won by Major Wayne Adams of Reno, whose average speed was 340.88 miles per hour. Some of the entries have modified their craft so they can make the 2404-mile flight without a fuel stop.
