Washoe Tribe receives more than $1 million in grants

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California has been awarded two grants totaling $1.37 million.

The tribe will receive $1 million for a corrections program and $372,123 for a tribal youth program. Both programs are focused on public safety issues.

In addition, the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe was awarded $188,695 for public safety and community policing.

Finally, the Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of Duck Valley was awarded two grants. A $724,891 grant will support alcohol and substance abuse programs. The second is $406,828 grant for a program to reduce violence against women.

The grants were announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and total $2.7 million altogether. They are part of a total of more than $97 million in grants issued by the U.S. Justice Department to improve public safety and victim services.
