Carson City Symphony’s Strings in the Summer putting on free concert

About 39 student musicians playing the violin, viola, cello and bass will be on hand Thursday at the Carson Mall for a free performance.

String instrument players of all ages from Carson City Symphony’s Strings in the Summer and Not Quite Ready for Carnegie Hall players, directed by Sue Jesch, will perform at 10:30 a.m.

Performers include beginning strings students from the Fiddle and Folk Music class and more advanced students from the String Ensemble class.

The students just wrapped up a five-week, tuition-free, summer program in which they learned a new tune each week.

They will be joined by adult beginner and intermediate string players from the Not Quite Ready for Carnegie Hall program, who meet weekly from September through July.

Strings in the Summer and Not Quite Ready for Carnegie Hall Players are supported, in part, by grants from the Nevada Arts Council, Partnership Carson City, Terry Lee Wells Foundation, Soroptimist International of Carson City, and by private donations.
