The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will benefit from $62,000 in new funding to continue two of its strategies — the Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) and the Forensic Assessment Services Triage Team (FASTT).

The funding comes to the region through Partnership Carson City and Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.

MOST includes a team composed of staff from the Sheriff’s Department, state rural mental health clinics, and Lyon County Human Services. The team visits homebound residents or others who are undergoing challenging life situations such as mental illness, and helps connect them with services and other resources in their communities.

FASTT helps reduce jail recidivism among those with mental illness and/or addiction by coordinating with diverse groups to carry out early intervention and wrap around services designed to get them back on track to healthy, productive lives and meaningful connections in their communities.

Healthy Communities is a regional, private nonprofit that subgrants funds to and/or provides technical support and grants management for Basin and Range Organics (BAR_O); Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley; Comstock Youth Works paid job internships in Yerington, Fernley, Dayton and Silver Springs; Central Lyon Youth Connections in Fernley, Yerington, Dayton and Silver Springs; Community Chest Inc in Storey County; Lyon County Human Services; Project NO Drugs in Mineral County (through University of Nevada Cooperative Extension); Positive Action youth development program at Walker River Tribe; Lyon County School District; the Resident Artist Program in Silver City; Community Roots; Silver Stage Food Pantry; Dayton Food Pantry; Stand Tall youth leadership and substance abuse prevention teams in Lyon County schools; Silver City Summer Program; Jackrabbit Junction; Silver Stage Community Garden; school-based resource coordinators, Signs of Suicide training, school garden clubs, and certified community health advocates in Fernley, Yerington, Dayton and Silver Springs; Dayton Farmers Market; and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
