Gus Fincel, a retired law enforcement officer, veteran and member of the 601 Vigilance Committee, will talk about the original “601 Vigilance Committee” at the next Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentations at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26.
The “601” was formed in 1871 to maintain law and order and administer summary justice where governmental law enforcement was inadequate in Virginia City. Today it is a nonprofit that preserves Comstock heritage and cowboy traditions through fundraisers and donations. It also provides grants and scholarships in the Comstock region.
Dinner is from 4 to 8 p.m. in the hotel’s Crown Point Restaurant, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill. The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Gold Hill Hotel. For dinner reservations, call the Gold Hill Hotel at 775-847-0111.
Upcoming presentations include: Tom’s Fairly Western cowboy music and poetry with Tom Zachry on June 2; Civil War History with Brian Staples on June 9; and Wild Horses of the Virginia/Flowery Ranges with Bonnie Matton on June 16.
