A nonprofit dog rescue is collecting gently worn or new shoes to support small businesses in developing nations.

Safe Haven Rescue is giving shoes to micro-vendors, small businesses typically operated by one person or a family, in third world countries.

Shoes can be brought to Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery, Lone Mountain Veterinary and Quail Ridge Animal Hospital in Carson City; or Carson Valley Veterinary, Max’s Pet Supplies, Grocery Outlet or Dora’s Old and New Thrift Store in Gardnerville. Lyon County Animal Services in Silver Springs and The Bakery Gallery, Through a Child’s Eyes, Financial Horizons, Anytime Fitness and Silverado Mercantile in Yerington also are drop-off sites.
