Inaugural Fall Kick-Off to benefit victims of tragedy

Local emergency service personnel will be on hand along with food and family activities at an event to benefit local victims of tragedy.

Central Lyon County Burn Fund is hosting its inaugural Fall Kick-Off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Central Lyon County Fire Protection District’s Sutro Station 35 in Dayton.

There will be free community services, vendor booths from local companies and opportunities for families to interact one-on-one with local firefighters.

The event was created as part of the Burn Fund’s effort to raise both awareness and funds for the nonprofit.

The Central Lyon County Burn Fund, run by CLCFPD full-time and volunteer firefighters, was established in 2002 as a fund to provide financial resources to victims of tragedy in the district.

Recipients of the Burn Fund’s resources have included victims and family members of structure fires, medical incidents and other related tragedies. Funds help everything from home repair to funeral services.

“As first responders, we try our absolute best for positive outcomes when running calls. Unfortunately, we’re not always able to ensure this outcome. The Burn Fund was established as a way for us to continue to give back but we need the help of our community to continue to make it happen. Our hope is this event will help us do that,” said Burn Fund president and Central Lyon County Fire Protection District Captain Nick Hernandez.

The Fall Kick-Off will include fire station tours; opportunities to spray water from the engine hose and try-on firefighter gear; car seat inspections; bounce houses; information for local resources and fire prevention; and free ice cream. Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for the first 200 guests starting at noon.

The event kicks off with a presentation of colors followed by lunch and a raffle which will be drawn every hour on the hour (must be present to win).

Sutro Fire Station 35 is located at 231 Corral Drive, Dayton.
