Man arrested for felony possession, says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. THURSDAY At 1:15 a.m., a 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested on suspicion of contempt of court after deputies initiated a traffic stop near Railroad Drive and Saliman Road. Bail was set at $227.

Royal Vista Apartments, a 98-unit complex at 3230 Imperial Way in Carson City, has been sold for $7 million. The buyer, a limited liability company, was undisclosed.

Gaming win up double digits in Carson Valley-Carson City

November’s gaming win was up 10.8 percent in the Carson Valley area. That’s an $847,000 increase to $8.67 million and the sixth consecutive monthly increase for the area that includes valley portions of Douglas County as well as the capital.

Nevada AG Laxalt files brief dealing with sanctuary cities

Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt joined an 11-state coalition of attorneys general on Friday in filing a friend-of-the-court brief in the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit – a federal appeals court that has jurisdiction over Nevada. The brief urges the court to reverse a U.S. District Court judge’s order preventing the implementation of the federal government’s executive order pertaining to sanctuary cities. The case is an opportunity to remedy the threat California’s “sanctuary cities” pose to Nevada safety, Laxalt’s office stated.

Multiple arrests for multiple DUIs, says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. THURSDAY At 8:28 a.m., a female transient was arrested on suspicion of six offenses including DUI 2nd after an accident at Roop and William streets. She reportedly left the scene after the wreck but a witness followed her to Dollar General on Highway 50 and called deputies.

Occupancy, revenue climbs at western mountain resorts

A lack of snowfall in November did little to dampen the enthusiasm of visitors, who turned out in strong numbers at western mountain resorts, industry data showed. Lodging figures released Monday revealed occupancy was up 7.1 percent last month, when compared with the same period last year. At the same time, revenue was up 11.4 percent.

Silver Springs armed robber sought

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about an armed robbery in the 6700 block of Highway 95A in Silver Springs. At about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, employees of the store told investigators the suspect entered the store and brandished a gun, yelled at the employees to give them all the money, and subsequently fled. No one was injured in the incident.

Trotter decides not to seek re-election

Sheriff Ben Trotter has announced he will not run for a third term as the county’s top lawman. Trotter is making his announcement simultaneously to both the community and his staff.

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. TUESDAY At 10:12 p.m., Ryan McGuire, 36, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and violation of bail conditions after deputies responded to reports of a man taking a vehicle near the Russell Way MAC Center. McGuire was later located near the 2200 block of Long Street. Bail was set at $25,500.

Roger Diez: Changes ahead for open-wheel racing

Last week I mentioned some of the changes coming to NASCAR for the 2018 season. This week, I’ll address open-wheel changes for next season, specifically the Verizon IndyCar series. Next week, I’ll run down what to expect in Formula One for the coming year.

Carson City THURSDAY At 7:36 a.m., Leilani Salter-Arms, 24, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance after deputies responded to an unwanted subject at the Carson Street Nugget Casino. Bail was set at $2,500.

Two arrested on meth and heroin charges in Carson City

Two people were arrested Wednesday morning in Carson City, allegedly in possession of more than five pounds of narcotics. Kimberly Lopes, 36, and Danny Jensen, 38, both of Las Vegas were arrested on various narcotics and trafficking charges after deputies discovered 5.4 pounds of methamphetamine and half a pound of heroin in their vehicle.

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. TUESDAY At 2:54 p.m., Eugene Adkism, 53, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of felony assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after deputies responded to reports of a man disrupting patrons at the Long Street F.I.S.H. Adkism allegedly attempted to punch deputies and was screaming profanities. Bail was set at $20,000.

Mountain West Notebook: Nevada rises to No. 9 in RPI

As of Tuesday morning, Nevada had the No. 9 ranking RPI among Division I schools, according to ESPN.com. The Pack won its first eight games, four at home and four on the road. The 8-0 start was the best in school history since Nevada went to Division I. Nevada’s strength of schedule is 64.

Nevada Supreme Court exempts itself from annual fee

The Nevada Supreme Court has changed the rules to exempt its members and all other members of the state judiciary from having to pay the annual fee imposed to support the Nevada Board of Continuing Legal Education. That fee — $40 a year — is charged to nearly all lawyers practicing in the state and pays for operations of the commission.

Carson City man receives maximum of up to 10 years for battery

Alfredo Eduardo Valdez was sentenced Tuesday to a maximum of 10 years in prison for battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm. Prosecutor Garrit Pruyt asked for the maximum 6-15-year sentence that crime carries. District Judge James Wilson ordered a sentence of 4-10 years in prison.
