A display that explores the intersection of art, culture and nature is up in Western Nevada College’s main gallery through April 7.
On loan from the Nevada Arts Council, “Mountain Picassos” offers 26 rubbings of arborglyphs, personal images inscribed by Basque sheepherders who lived in the Great Basin in the first half of the 20th century.
The display, part of the Nevada Touring Initiative traveling exhibition program, includes text panels, contextual photographs, and video. It is curated by Sheryln HayesZorn of the Nevada Historical Society and Patricia A. Atkinson of the Nevada Arts Council Folklife Program, in consultation with the UNR Center for Basque Studies and Jean and Phillip Earl.
