Banner’s Carnahan named to state post

Banner Churchill Community Hospital’s chief nursing officer, Rob Carnahan, RN, MSN, has been elected to the top leadership role in Nevada’s statewide nursing organization.

Carnahan began his duties as president-elect of the Nevada Organization of Nurse Leaders earlier this month. He will serve one year in this role, as president for one year and as past president for 2019.

The group is a chapter affiliated with the American Organization of Nurse Executives and provides leadership, professional development and advocacy of issues important to nursing to residents, businesses and political leaders of Nevada. The Nevada organization incorporated in 2010 with more than 280 members.

“Being from a rural community and winning the election to this position is unique,” Carnahan said. “Most leaders in the organization often come from urban hospitals that are much larger and have many more employees than Banner Churchill.”

Carnahan said he plans to use the opportunity to bring attention to issues that impact nursing with an emphasis on how those impacts affect rural areas.

Carnahan joined Banner Health in 2011 and came to Fallon in 2013. He oversees all of the hospital’s clinical areas as well as the ambulance service, cardiopulmonary services, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services. He leads a staff of more than 75 nurses and more than 200 employees total. For the past year, Carnahan has served as the treasurer of the Nevada nursing organization.
