Carson City is about to get a slice of Jamaica, as reggae artist Barrington Levy is headlining Epic Rides’ Off-Road Four Peaks Music Festival on Saturday.
Although he’s performed in Las Vegas and San Francisco during previous tours, this will be Levy’s first visit to Nevada’s state capital. The 53-year-old entertainer hails from Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, and is flying about 3,000 miles to entertain Carson City folks with rhythmic, island sway.
“I’ve been to so many places,” he said. “I’m definitely looking forward to the performance. I hope there’s going to be a good turnout and I hope everything will be nice.”
Levy is a Grammy-nominated reggae artist, with his latest single “G.S.O.A.T.,” an acronym for Great Survivor of All Time. The song is part of the setlist in his upcoming album, Survivor, with lyrics focusing on diligence, strength, and dedication to life.
The international star made his big break on the island at age 16, after the release of his album, Robin Hood.
It predominantly hit the charts in the United Kingdom, along with the rest of his music throughout the 1980s.
With a contemporary style and charm, Levy’s lyrics contributes to keeping reggae alive. After Carson City, he’s off to Boonville, Calif., to perform on Sunday in the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.
“Music never stops,” he said. “I’m going to come there and do a great show.”
Joining the main stage on the night of the Off-Road festival includes 4 Piece Puzzle out of South Lake Tahoe; Tripping King Snakes of Carson City; and American hard-rock band, Greta Van Fleet.
Four Peaks Beer Garden opens at 10 a.m. Saturday with live performances throughout the day. Levy’s performance is set for 6:30 p.m.
