Financial Horizons Credit Union established the Pennies Count Fund in 1996, and it began by asking members to donate the “cents” from either cashing a check or a recurring direct deposit.
As Benjamin Franklin once said, “A penny saved is a penny earned.”
Employees of Financial Horizons Credit Union are passionate about the communities they live in and take pride in their Pennies Count Fund. Employees conduct various fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for our communities.
Fundraisers include 5K run/walks, books sales, tea parties and bake sales. While visiting the office on a Friday, people will see most of the staff wearing jeans and a credit union shirt. By dressing down on Fridays, employees donate $1 each Friday to the Pennies Count Fund.
In 2016, Financial Horizons Credit Union donated $750 to the Fallon Peace Officers Association, Churchill County Volunteer Fire Department, Churchill County Sheriff’s Officer Association and Churchill County Search and Rescue. Financial Horizons also purchased needed clothing for two families in the Churchill County School District Students in Transition Program.
With the community’s help, Financial Horizons expect to be able to donate even more this year.
Financial Horizons recently hosted its second annual Tea Party in the cafeteria at Lahontan Elementary School. Last year Financial Horizons sold approximately 90 tickets to the event and this year well over 100. The event raised more than $1,200, and Financial Horizons will be donating half of that to the Lahontan School PTO.
