Two Carson City businesses failed the Sheriff’s Office alcohol compliance checks Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office used a 17-year-old decoy to attempt to purchase alcohol from several locations around town.
The Highway 50 Cigarettes for Less and Nye Lane One Stop Food both failed the compliance checks, serving alcohol to the minor. When a compliance check is failed, the person who sells the alcohol to the minor is issued a citation for $640 and is required to attend an Alcohol Server Training Class. The business owner or person who holds the liquor license is also charged $100 for the first offense.
Other stores that passed were: Hot Springs Drive RK Food Market, College Parkway Maverick, Highway 50 Maverick, Highway 50 FoodMaxx, Old Hot Springs Road Sassafras, and North Carson Street Bully’s Sports Bar.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office goal is to have 100 percent compliance and have no one sell alcohol to minors.
