Art shows debuting in Carson City

Something is sprouting inside Comma Coffee’s Backseat Gallery, where paintings, drawings and other work by local artists are regularly displayed.

Carol Brown’s new “Farm to Market” series will open June 2 inside the eatery at 213 S. Carson St., across from the Legislative Building.

The artist, who grew up on a farm, created the original prints with inspiration from Carson City’s 3rd and Curry St. Farmers Market.

“I associate hard work with farm life and today I work in my studio creating original hand-colored, relief prints, hand-made paper, and handmade books,” Brown said. “Working in the art studio is fun. If I can’t grow fruits and vegetables, I can draw and print them.”

Brown said she will be selling her art at the market when it opens in June.

Additionally, the gallery is hosting a free reception with the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. June 7. The exhibition will continue through June 29.

The Backseat Gallery presents monthlong exhibitions of work by regional artists. For information, call June Joplin at 775-883-2662.

Also debuting on June 2 is an art show by Silver City resident Karen Kreyeski.

Kreyeski will unveil her show, Fragile Jewels of the Earth, with a reception and light refreshments from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carson City Art Gallery & Pottery.

The Montana turned Silver City resident said she learned to love Nevada the first time she swam in the blue waters of Lake Tahoe.

She said her love for the state grew through the next several decades as she flew over, drove through, or hiked the hidden meadows, valleys, ravines in those mountains she passed on Interstate 80, and Highways 95 and 395, or deserts she explored on foot.

Her current work on wildflowers is a reflection of earth’s gifts that, the artist said, must be enjoyed and preserved for future generations.

The show will remain on display until June 29. The gallery, housed in the historic stagecoach building at 110 S. Curry St., is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
