Cloudburst at Lahontan but No Damage Done: There was a cloudburst at Lahontan Thursday evening between 5 and 6 o’clock, when the water came down in sheets. No damage was done, however, as the main storm struck the reservoir and on the dam, no canals or ditches were injured. A.J. Rankin, caretaker of the dam, says it seemed to him there was more water that fell at Derby the time the canals were filled with debris in so many places. A heavy windstorm struck Fallon about the same time, but there was no rain here.

75 Years Ago

Soldiers Make Gift for Recreation Hall: Soldier boys who have been serving under Lieutenant Herbert E. Lind, while stationed here doing the demolition work in connection with the shipping of Camp Newlands buildings and equipment to California, made a gift of $16.25 “to buy something for the A.W.V.S. Recreation Hall,” before leaving this week, their work completed. Mrs. Ira L. Kent said that the boys, who had made the hall their downtown headquarters here, who, she said were a “mighty nice bunch of boys,” expressed their appreciation of the treatment they had received in Fallon. Lieutenant Lind said Thursday that not a single one of his boys wanted to leave.

50 Years Ago

In Days Gone By Ad on the front page of the Churchill Standard June 2, 1906. Buy a lot for a home in Verplank’s Addition to Fallon. This choice residence tract is now being subdivided and placed upon the market. The lots are 45 x 125 ft. in size fronting on 60-80 foot streets. High, dry, and sanitary. A water right prorata [sic] goes with every lot sold. The title is perfect. The price is from $250 to $500 according to location. Fallon Land and Improvement Co. See us at once. These lots will double in price as soon as the railroad gets in.
