Also for CHS, Kahle Good had 11 points, five assists and three steals, Nathan Smothers had seven rebounds and Colton Schafer added six rebounds. Carson took control the game from the start, leading 22-11 after one quarter.

CHS girls split

The Carson High girls basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend at the Coach Wilson Memorial Tournament. Carson suffered a heartbreaking 40-38 loss to Pacific Bay Christian but came back to beat Stevenson 46-42.

Carson led throughout against Pacific Bay and led by as many as 10 points. CHS led 23-17 at halftime but went cold in the third quarter. “We’ve got to start making all the missed bunnies,” Carson coach Doug Whisler said. “We have been getting second and third chances consistently, but we can’t convert.

“Overall the girls looked better running our offenses, and they are all working very hard on defense. Abby Pradere continues to fly all over the court. She hustles so much, it makes up for some of the mistakes we make on defense.”

Whisler also said Lily Bouza, Abby Golik, Camryn Quilling and Naycy Alvarez all played well. Golik hit two three-pointers early but rolled her ankle in the second half and had to sit out the rest of the game.

Bouza scored 15 points, Alvarez had 12 points, Quilling had nine points and Pradere and Golik each added six points.

The Senators were able to beat Stevenson despite going just 8-of-25 from the foul line. “Because of that, our defense saved us,” Whisler said.

Otherwise, Whisler said it was a strong effort by his team. “This was the best game the girls have played all season,” he said. “At times, they looked like a swarm of bees on defense.

“We are constantly talking about doing the little things; keep your guy in front, don’t reach, help, box out, and the girls are really starting to buy in. This was our best defensive effort.”

Whisler also said Stevenson had no answer for Quilling in the post. He also praised Bouza’s defensive effort.

Bouza scored 15 points, Alvarez had 12 points, Quilling had nine points and Pradere added six points. Bouza was named to the all-tournament team.

Carson will play at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at Reed.

Dayton girls fall

The Dayton girls basketball team fell to Yerington 63-29. Dayton had a solid first quarter but ended up falling behind 33-13 at halftime. “I felt like our girls lacked energy from the start and a team like Yerington will take advantage of that,” Dayton coach Kelly Frantz said.

Aleea Howe had 13 points and four assists while Eden Evans and Shainey Vincent each contributed four points for the Dust Devils.

“We couldn’t get our offense going and were a little slow on the defensive rotation, but everyone contributed tonight and we played a better second half,” Frantz said.

CHS wrestling takes ninth

Carson placed ninth at the high-powered Winnemucca Tournament. Ariel Vega (106 pounds), David Remer (195) and Alex Wells (160) all placed second and Izayah Pando took sixth at 152 for the Senators.
