The Carson High girls basketball team took control from the start in a 35-18 win over Galena on Wednesday at CHS.

Carson led 7-0 after the first period, 15-6 at halftime and 21-12 after three quarters. CHS went on to outscore Galena 14-4 in the fourth quarter.

“We just played a solid game,” Carson coach Doug Whisler said. “All the starters played well defensively.”

Whisler said Abby Pradere and Bella Kordonowy led the defensive effort.

“We executed our stuff,” Whisler said. “We’ve been preaching to the girls to score on our terms and we finally did that. It was a good game for us.”

Lily Bouza scored 14 points, Abby Golik had 10 points and Naycy Alvarez added nine points for the Senators.

Carson hosts Manogue at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

CHS boys fall

Carson led 21-20 at halftime but Galena came back to take control in the second half on its way to beating CHS 57-41. The Senators allowed 25 points in the third quarter.

“We went away from our defensive game plan and their shooters got in rhythm and knocked down some shots,” Carson coach Jordan Glover said.

Carson kept Galena off the boards in the first half, but the Grizzlies had 13 offensive rebounds in the second half which helped lead to two three-point field goals and a couple of putbacks. “We gave up too many second chance points,” Glover said.

Parsa Hadjighasemi scored 11 points and Joey Summers and Nathan Smothers each added nine points for CHS, which hosts Manogue at 7 p.m. Friday.
