The Oasis Academy Bighorns boys basketball team dropped games at Smith Valley and Silver Stage last weekend.

Friday’s game against Smith Valley ended 67-20. Oasis coach Donald Schank said Smith Valley was disciplined and beat the Bighorns’ full-court pressure.

“Their size hurt us on the boards, but it was a good opportunity for us to work on better positioning,” Schank said.

The Bulldogs took a 28-12 halftime lead.

Smith Valley stretched the lead in the second half. Oasis only scored two fourth quarter points. Caden Johnson led Oasis with seven points. Kenyen Hicks and Joel Mincer were close behind with six and five respectively; Patrick Morrow followed up with two points.

Saturday’s game against Silver Stage ended in another defeat, 52-15. The Nighthawks quickly gained a lead, breaking through Oasis’ defense; by halftime they held a 35-7 lead.

Joshua Mikulak was a top scorer for Oasis, adding six points. Hicks and Mincer tied for second, each scoring four points while Johnson scored one.

Oasis Academy’s boys basketball team plays tonight, hosting Reno’s Coral Academy of Science for the second half of the Battle for the Ore Cart; the game starts at 6:30 p.m. after the girls’ game. Saturday the Bighorns travel to Eureka.
