Although Truckee ran away with both the boys and girls team regional titles, the Greenwave finished solid, taking second in the boys and third in the girls.

Truckee won the boys division with 501 points to Fallon’s 216, while the Wolverines won the girls division with 522 points over South Tahoe (234) and Fallon (208) Saturday in Carson City. Fallon’s boys team lost to both Lowry and South Tahoe during the regular season but it was able to score a couple surprises to finish second.

“I was very pleased with our performance at regionals last weekend,” Fallon coach Ken Grimes said. “We were able to move several kids into finals who were seeded outside of the top eight and that made a big difference in the finals overall scoring.”

With the top three qualifying for state this weekend at UNLV, Fallon qualified in two relay and two individual events for the boys, while the girls qualified one relay team.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Dominic Schulenberg, Ruben Alanis, Christian Nemeth and Donnovan Wright finished second in 1 minute, 57.40 seconds. The same team also finished second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.24. Both times were at least a second faster than their previous best.

Nemeth finished third in the 50 freestyle in 23.87 and third in the 100 freestyle in 54.18, which was half a second faster than his previous best.

Schulenberg finished fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:11.98 and Alanis was also fifth in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:14.57.

For the Lady Wave, the 200 medley relay team of Hannah Rochna, Ashby Trotter, Emily Giovanetti and Whitney Bernard dropped almost 4 seconds off its time to finish third in 2:15.72.

Rochna just missed qualifying in the 200 freestyle, finishing fourth at 2:24.58, while Giovanetti also took fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.69. Larissa Sanches finished fifth in the 500 freestyle in 7:03.90 and Rochna was fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.54.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Sanches, Ashby Trotter, Rochna and Giovanetti finished 1.45 seconds from qualifying as they took fourth in 2:03.95. Giovanetti finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.84.

“I’m very proud of our team and appreciate the leadership of our seniors,” Grimes said. “We have one more meet to prepare for and see if we can’t pull off a few more upsets at UNLV on Saturday.”
