Carson High School golf in third at regionals

Carson High’s Karen and Jill Beglin qualified for the State Championships on Thursday at the Northern 4A Regional Golf Championships.

Jill Beglin finished second with a 152 after shooting a 78 in Thursday’s second round at Reno’s Arrow Creek Country Club. Wooster’s Lily Landt won the regional title with a 147 after firing a 74 on Thursday.

Karen Beglin finished fifth overall with a 156 after firing an 81 on Thursday.

The Beglins finished among the top six from non-qualifying teams to qualify for state.

Carson’s other scoring golfers on Thursday were Sarah Wiggins who fired a 115 to finish with a 221 and Kassidy Cooley, who shot a 116 to finish with a 230. Gabby Montes also shot a 120 to finish with a 231 for Carson.

Carson finished third as a team after shooting a 390 on Thursday to finish at 753. Reno won the team title after firing a 359 to finish at 700 and Manogue took second with a 716 after shooting a 369 on Thursday. Reno and Manogue qualified as the top two teams to state.

The state tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Carson was in third place after the first round of the Northern 4A Regionals held on Wednesday at Sierra Sage Golf Course in Stead.

Reno led after the first round after firing a 341 and Manogue was in second with a 347. CHS was in third with a 363.

Karen and Jill Beglin placed themselves in solid position to qualify for state as individuals for CHS after the first round.

Jill Beglin was one stroke out of the lead after firing a 74 in the first round. She was in fourth behind Reno’s Abbi Fleiner, Wooster’s Lily Landt and Reno’s Charlotte Mason, who all fired a 73.

Karen Beglin shot a 75 and was tied for fifth with Reed’s Kaitlin Fleiner.

Carson’s other two scoring players on Wednesday were Wiggins who shot a 106 and Sophia Taggart who fired a 108. Also for CHS, Montes shot a 111 and Cooley fired a 114.
