$1.2 million available for recreational trails projects

Approximately $1.2 million in funding is available to finance projects that create or improve trails in Nevada.

The funding is for the 2019 fiscal year. Applications are due by Nov. 9.

The Nevada Division of State Parks (NDSP) administers grant funds from the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) of the Federal Highway Administration.

The program funds motorized, non-motorized and educational recreational trail projects for federal, state, and local governments, American tribes, special government districts, and private individuals and organizations.

“This is a great opportunity to create or improve trails so more people can get out and appreciate Nevada’s natural beauty,” said Eric Johnson, administrator of Nevada State Parks.

Previous projects have included the River Mountain Loop Trail, the Logandale Trail Restroom, the Tamarack Lake Trail, and the Kershaw-Ryan Multi-Use Mountain Bike Trail System.

The 2019 RTP application and applicant handbook is available at http://parks.nv.gov/about/grant-programs/recreational-trails-program or at the Division of State Parks office at 901 S. Stewart Street, Suite 5005, Carson City.

NDSP will be conducting five RTP workshops. All workshops will be in collaboration with the Nevada OHV Program, except for the workshop on Oct. 9:

Oct. 1 ­­— 1-2:30 p.m. or 5-6:30 p.m., Great Basin College, McMullen Hall, Room 220, 1500 College Parkway, Elko

Oct. 2 — 1:30-3 p.m., Bristlecone Convention Center, 150 W. Sixth St., Ely

Oct. 3 — 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Caliente City Hall, 100 Depot Ave., Council Chambers, Caliente

Oct. 4 — 10-11:30 a.m., Richard Bryan Building, 901 S. Stewart St., first floor conference room, Carson City

Oct. 9 — 10-11 a.m. or 6-7 p.m., Nevada Division of State Parks, 4747 Vegas Drive, Las Vegas
