Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High students Evan Cherpeski, Brianna Mooney-Bennett, Megan Owens and Emma Rosen and Douglas High student Justin Lu who have all been selected as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists for 2019. They are now eligible to become National Merit Scholarship finalists and eventually to be named as National Merit Scholarship winners.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those who organized and are participating in today’s Walk for Suicide Awareness.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those who organized and are participating in today’s Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Fun Walk/Run which also featured a bench press competition and golf tournament at Silver Oak Golf Course. The fundraiser is presented by the Carson City Kiwanis Club, Kaia FIT and Tahoe Mountain Milers.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson Tahoe Health for performing more than 100 robotic-assisted surgeries since debuting the da Vinci Xi Surgical System in November 2017.
