WASHINGTON — Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., has announced the Justice Department is awarding more than $3 million in grants to American Indian tribes in Nevada.
“This announcement comes amid DOJ efforts to combat the disproportionate levels of violent crime and domestic violence in American Indian and Alaska Native communities,” said according to the statement issued by his office.
“As a champion for victims and a strong proponent of the Violence Against Women Act, I will continue fighting to advance policies that will strengthen efforts to crack down on crime, help deliver justice to victims and support and protect survivors,” Heller said.
The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe will receive $1,004,552, the Moapa Band of Paiutes will get $299,900, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe $1,340,000 and the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada $450,000.
