The Ormsby House has been reopened to the public by Mr. Geo. D. Fryer who, henceforth will assume the character of “mine host” in that establishment. The house and all of its arrangements have been thoroughly cleansed.

A Whirl Wind. It Raises Bergman’s Clothing. Yesterday about noon a whirl wind passed up Carson street. It lasted about three minutes, but it was about the liveliest three minutes ever experienced by A. Bergman. It caught up dry goods boxes, Saratoga trunks and Spring suits.

100 years ago

Officers Capture Prize. Down in Ely a few days ago the officers discovered and captured four big barrels of whisky, with not a single man to claim ownership. It consisted of 1,400 quarts of whisky, reported to have been owned by “Ole” Elliott, and in possession of George McDonald. This is the largest capture of booze at one time in the history of the state, and at prevailing prices, worth a small fortune.

Two youths charged with theft of bicycles in Carson City were in the city jail today and two more were scheduled to be taken into custody. Six boys, all former students of Stewart Indian School, were involved in the thefts.

Cootiettes will hear a report on the official visit of the Supreme Grayback to Nevada and will also break the charter for Martha Olds. Mrs. Olds died recently.

Steve Wark’s stormy tenure as state Republican Party chairman came to an end Saturday when the GOP voted 86-33 to oust him. Wark wasn’t able to be at the vote. His car broke down on the way from Las Vegas in Beatty.

Fire yet burning at the Yellow Jacket. We learn from last evening’s Gold Hill News that the fire in the Yellow Jacket is not yet extinguished.

There is at the present time in the Carson Mint about $1,600,000 of gold in shoe bars, being about 988 1/2 fine, and 80,000 ounces in silver bullion — a stock sufficient to keep the Mint running four years, at least.

Half of Reno expects Tex Rickard to step up hat in hand and politely ask Reno to stage the Willard-Dempsey fight. The other half of Reno either does not want the fight or is dubious about the benefits Reno would receive from it.

Two tired but happy owners of a new world endurance record flew their airplane in lazy circles today and announced they hope to stay aloft “two weeks or a month more.” While a crowd of 2,000 cheered in Fullerton, Ca., Bill Barris and Dick Reidel shattered the decade-old mark of 726 hours and an hour later hung up a new record of 727 hours. The duo flew in an Aeronca cabin plane and got fuel and supplies three times a day from a speeding jeep as they flew leisurely across the country to Florida and back.

One hundred and twenty miles of the old railroad grade of the Las Vegas and Tonopah railroad from Beatty to Las Vegas, together with fifty-five bridges, two wells, considerable corrugated pipe and other equipment has been taken over by the state department of highways and preparations will be made at once to ope up the old grade for a road.
